Tibet Trek

Mount Kailash: Tibet’s most sacred mountain, Mount Kailash, is situated in far west region of Tibet. We trek through Nepal for 6 days to reach the border of Tibet. A visit to Mount Kailash is considered to be a pilgrimage by Buddhists. Tibetans believe that trekking around the holy Mount Kailash creates many lifetimes of good karma.

Nepal: We will go by flight deep into the heart of the Himalayas to the village of Simikot. We trek to the border of Tibet through a very remote area of Nepal where few tourists visit. The trek lasts for 6 days, and it takes us through the lush Humla region of Nepal.

Tibet: We will cross the Nara-La pass to enter the high plateau of Tibet. We will then drive to Mount Kailash and the sacred Lake Manasarpver. We will have time to visit a local monastery. We will then make the four day trek around Mt. Kailash, where we may encounter Tibetan and Hindu pilgrims who have traveled for months to this holy mountain. A Tibetan believes that walking or prostrating around Mt. Kailash will eliminate negative Karma and bring happiness to ones life. Tibetans will walk the circuit as many as 13 times. We return to Nepal by vehicle across the Tibetan plateau. We will stop along the way to visit local monasteries and villages.

Trek rating: Strenuous, good physical condition required.

Highest Altitude reached: 18,600 ft. (Drolma-La pass on Mt. Kailash)

Starting trek altitude in Nepal: 9,200 ft (Simikot)

Average altitude in Tibet: 15,000 ft.

Trip Season: This trek can be done in the summers months, as Tibet is warm and clear during this time. We cover a big elevation gain and it will be necessary to have warm as well as cold weather gear.
